The power of Curcumin in supporting your immune system

The fear of COVID-19 has led many of us to really think properly just how to support immunity. In the third of this series, with Maria’s expertise as an Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) practitioner we look at how can you support your immune system in light of the Coronavirus:

“Continuing this series, I look at supporting your immunity through the power of Curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric). It has been shown in various studies to be a potent immunomodulatory agent that can modulate the activation of T cells, B cells, macrophages, neutrophils, natural killer cells, and dendritic cells.

This basically means curcumin can be a powerful immune system supportive nutrient, and therefore a key nutrient for us to consider for helping us all to fight a virus such as COVID-19. Try adding extra turmeric into your diet during periods of stress and when your immune system needs extra support such as a time like this. If you can find fresh turmeric, then grab some! Peel it and add it into smoothies, grate it into porridge and stir-fries.

Add ground turmeric to all your cooking especially your eggs as the lecithin in eggs can help to increase the absorption of the curcumin, so add it to your scrambled eggs and omelettes! You could also try a nice cup of turmeric ‘golden’ milk every day, which I find really conforting – so curl up with one and read a good book!”
