Glucosamine and how it can support your immune system
COVID-19 can create anxiety. There are positive steps we can all do to make our everyday lives healthier such as looking for lifestyle changes to improve immunity. In this series, with Maria’s expertise as an Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) practitioner we look at how can you support your immune system in the days of the Coronavirus:
“Continuing this series, I look at Glucosamine and your immune health.
Glucosamine is a naturally occurring molecule within your body but is commonly taken as a supplement most often for bone and joint issues, such as osteoarthritis, and to reduce inflammation in inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis.
It is a building block for a number of functional molecules in your body but is mostly known for developing and maintaining healthy joint cartilage.
Can you get glucosamine from foods? Yes, glucosamine is naturally present in the shells of shellfish, animal bones, bone marrow, and fungi.
Consuming one cup of warm bone broth (e.g. using chicken or beef bones simmered for 24 hours) is a great way to increase glucosamine levels. So, make sure you save your bones after a roast dinner!”
